The garden's coming up!

alt_mollyThis is always such an exciting time of year. Putting in the garden is hard work, but it's worth it to see all the green shoots coming up. We've been eating the new lettuce and I should have peas ready to harvest soon. Quite a welcome change to our supper plates after a winter of canned foods. I was worried that we weren't going to have quite enough rain in early April, but things have evened out now, and my crops are well established.
The hives seem to have wintered well, and the bees have been buzzing around the orchard. We have some new kid goats. The chickens seem to be momentarily sulking (no new eggs in three days), but otherwise the flock seems to be thriving. I was hoping for some eggs this morning so I could bake a cake to cheer up poor Arthur at dinner tonight.
This business regarding the Dogstar arrests has been a nasty shock for him at work. It's a great relief, of course, to have the traitors routed, but the Muggle Domestication department is going to be doing a top-to-bottom review. Arthur's involved only tangentially, since he's merely a liaison to that department, but he's had to pull together any correspondence or reports or notes he has in conjunction with any collaboration he had with Norma Brownmiller. There will be interviews, too, and he may be called to sit in on some of those as well. Arthur's quite upset about her perfidy. As well he should be! He has been wracking his brain, trying to think of when he might have seen some hint, some clue. But there was none: he had absolutely no idea.
I have a meeting with the barter committee this afternoon. We've added a number of new households this spring, and the network is really flourishing. I'm quite proud of my own part in making the network grow. I do enjoy the administrative work. It's a fine chance to meet and check in with my neighbours.
Oh, it's starting to rain. The spinach will love that.

Things have been tense in the Ministry, from top to bottom. Since Thursday night, we've been delivering all the building's rubbish to MLE, and that DIRRT group are calling people in again.
No one seems interested in me, though, so no worries on my account.
